Oakland Tour…

so, i took a tour of o-town this past week with greg yee, a buddy of mine who grew up there.  it was an exciting, scary, compelling, and overwhelming trip.  i have done some research on the city so i knew going in that it is one of the most diverse cities (both ethnically and socio-economically) in california. but to see it first hand was really cool.  i think what was overwhelming was the extent of the segregation of communities and hearing things like, “the killing zone,” “we found a dead body here,” and “there was a decapitated prostitute found here…”  like i said, overwhelming.  at the same time, the vision and conviction that God has placed in my heart for a converged Oakland (with each other and with God) has grown significantly.  i will continue to learn, continue to stretch, continue to grow, and most importantly, i will continue to obey step by step.  i’ll be taking another tour with terry on the 18th.  so many thoughts are swirling in my head and heart.  i’ll keep processing and unpacking here…  stay tuned…
